Ipisi Mag Shoutout

The pilot edition release date for Ipisi Magazine has been set for April 28, with delivery due by May 2 to agencies, schools and organisations.

The pilot edition will focus on the role young people play in conflict, something that we at Ipisi feel has generally been neglected by the mass media in recent and current conflicts.

So, we're putting out the call for articles from all over the world to engage young Australians topics relating to youth and conflict, in particular;
- Students protesting during school/uni hours
- How youth are affected by conflict; both within and without
- What young people can do about conflict and its consequences (Human Rights, Aid, Humanitarian Assistance, protesting, direct action, etc)

And, in conjunction with this focus on conflict we're taking a timely look at Australia's national identity and the ANZAC tradition. We're looking for submissions on;
- the significance of ANZAC day to you
- what it is to be Australian
- the role of wars in defining identity
- how migrant communities shape national identity

In terms of getting young people involved, we're lookign for reports from
- Global Youth Service Day / Youth Week
- Anti/Pro war protests
- ANZAC day services
- any organisation that offers young people opportunities in the areas covered above

Not all of the above topics will be covered, but we're looking for a wide range of input from which to choose. Articles are asked to be between 500-750 words, and can include images. Submissions can be emailed to simon@ipisimag.grokspot.com and/or posted on the TIG article database.

Cheers

quote collection

As i dredge my way through a few dozen opinion pieces on the war for a uni assignment, I'm amazed at the little pearls of wisdom that popup from the most unexpected of sources. Here are some of the quirrky quips that have surfaced in my research;

"Never in the history of mankind has anyone washed a rental car. Ownership is the key to success. That's why smart people in Washington, Europe and at the United Nations are planning for a post-Saddam Hussein Iraq that helps recreate
what was one of the most successful societies in the Middle East." Mike Moore, Former Director-General of the WTO

"The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on. It's an old Arab proverb, never more relevant than now." Tim Colebatch, Aussie journo, on the need to start building for a better future in Iraq, regardless of our thoughts on war.

"Don't go back, Mr President. You walked away from the United Nations at great cost and with great courage. Don't go back." Charles Krauthammer, US commentator and guardian of the realist perspective. Btw - I'm not what you'd call a fan of this antique realist relic

"A war based on a string of "probabilities", "possibilities" and "mights" is utterly remote from any conception of a just war that I understand." Robert Manne, Australian Commentator

"A day after war with Iraq began, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld responded with a grin to a reporter who complained the fighting wasn't going the way he'd been led to believe. You don't know the real plan, Rumsfeld said, sounding a bit like Jack Nicholson as a marine general in A Few Good Men. And he added he was quite happy about that fact." Aussie journo Ref Barnes
